I am confounded as to why no major car companies have come out with something between a Prius and a hybrid SUV. There must be plenty of people who want high gas mileage and need a little more room than a Prius offers, but don't want to step up to a Ford Escape Hybrid or Toyota Highlander Hybrid, since their mileage really isn't that great.

Why is there no hybrid Honda CR-V or Toyota RAV4? Why is there no hybrid station wagon? Wouldn't any car manufacturer want to have the only car like this? Wouldn't they sell a lot of cars? If you wish there was a hybrid wagon on the market, sign the Hybrid Wagon Petition.

Prius Wagon

Inspired by this concept, I designed a tweak to a standard Toyota Prius, changing it to a wagon. I know nothing about car modifications (except for watching Pimp My Ride on MTV), so I don't know how difficult it would be to make this modification to a stock Prius. It seems like it would be a ton of work to modify the rear doors and create a new rear hatch. If anyone wants to make an educated guess on the cost to create this Prius Wagon, please send me an email (especially if you actually have the capabilities to do this modification and are in Southern California). The contact email address is below the car.

FEB 2009 UPDATE - The above was originally posted online in March 2006. The linked petition website seems to have recently disappeared. We've still seen nothing close to a hybrid wagon in the U.S., and I've heard no responses about modifying a stock Prius from any shops (I'm still interested). Thanks to the many people who have sent supportive emai.
